Join us for a free screening of the new Patagonia Film: Jirishanca.

Veteran alpinist Josh Wharton, along with partner Vince Anderson, venture to the Peruvian Andes for Josh’s fourth attempt to establish a new route on a legendary mountain.

Known locally in Quechua as “The Hummingbird,” Jirishanca in Peru’s Cordillera Huayhuash packs a punch: rock pitches up to 5.13, unstable ice across mixed terrain, and “psychedelic snow climbing” to the summit.

The mountain’s varied and wild state owes to warming global temperatures, so Josh and Vince face experience a vastly different and more challenging mountain than those who first set foot on the peak in the 1950s.

Filmed in an intimate “on-the mountain” style reminiscent of The Alpinist, paired with remarkable high-altitude drone camerawork, this piece tells the story of a world-class level climbing set in a rapidly changing alpine environment.

Josh Wharton

Patagonia Ambassador and Subject of Film

Josh Wharton grew up in the woods of southern New Hampshire; exploring, fishing and riding his bike. In high school, partly through the guidance of his father, Josh found climbing and things have never been the same. Although people probably know him best for his international alpine climbing adventures, he loves climbing in all its various forms. Be it obsessing over a boulder’s micro beta or questing into a massive Himalayan wall. Josh particularly enjoys objectives that require him to dig deep, and push himself to new levels. Josh makes his home in the small mountain town of Estes Park, Colorado with his wife Erinn and daughter Hera.

Vince Anderson

Patagonia Ambassador and Subject of Film

Vince Anderson is a mountain guide based in Grand Junction, Colorado, and the owner of Skyward Mountaineering. Dedicated to the wholehearted pursuit of alpinism, he has made the first ascents of routes on K7 West in Pakistan and on the North Face of Mount Alberta, and he and Steve House won the 2006 Piolet d'Or for their alpine-style first ascent of the Central Pillar of Nanga Parbat’s Rupal Face. A father of three, Vince splits his time between mountain guiding, rocking out to vinyl records, and mind-expanding climbing experiences.
